Frequently Asked Questions

What is Wessex Filling Station?

In a nutshell: Wessex Filling Station is a monthly midweek cross denominational and ecumenical celebration meeting with a keynote conference speaker of worth. Its purpose is to encourage, empower and enrich peoples experience and knowledge of God through praise and worship and the spoken Word of God.

It is also there as a catalyst for unity. It gives Christians of all backgrounds, denominations and flavours the opportunity to come together in unity in a conference style setting and enjoy fellowship and great teaching.

On occasions special leaders lunches and forums will be arranged with nationally known and respected leaders who would like to motivate churches to work together for the good of their local communities.

Is it a Church?

No, most definitely not.

Wessex Filling Station IS NOT A Church; but IT IS the church coming together from across Christchurch, Bournemouth and Poole for a monthly celebration. This diversity is displayed in the team itself who come from a range of different churches across the area; and is made up of like-minded individuals who want to see the churches of Christchurch, Bournemouth and Poole working together for the good of all and the local communities in which they (each church building) is built.

At that cross denominational and ecumenical celebration we will have a keynote conference speaker who will encourage those present in their faith and daily walk with God. 'Wessex' was set up to reflect our differences but to celebrate our unity in Christ. It is charismatic and evangelical in outlook and feel; plus it is Christocentric and focuses those present on Jesus.

In a Nutshell we say:

"Wessex Filling Station IS a monthly midweek cross denominational and ecumenical celebration meeting with a keynote conference speaker of worth. Its purpose is to encourage, empower and enrich peoples experience and knowledge of God through praise and worship and the spoken Word of God."

What is the Filling Station Trust?

The Filling Station Trust was set up by Revd. Richard Fothergill who is an ordained minister in the Church of England but whom God led to set up the Filling Station Trust after he oversaw a number of evangelical unity meetings in the Bristol area.

On the Filling Station Trust Website Richard writes:

"Using monthly mid-week evening ‘celebration’ meetings held in non-church venues we have seen Christian communities grow in depth & numbers where a Filling Station has been opened. The Filling Station offers high quality speakers and teachers, contemporary sung worship and powerful, accessible prayer ministry.

Our meetings are designed to be overtly spiritual but presented in a manner that those outside the church would feel comfortable. Meetings are held monthly and aim to be short, sharp and focused in character. We find many people meet God through these meetings and faith is built up. Many church leaders find then an excellent additional ministry tool."

Why Wessex?

This is a good question and the answer is such an interesting one we have written an article about it here: Why Wessex?

When Do You Meet?

Wessex Filling Station meets every last Thursday of the month (with the exception of December and August)

There is a reason for the Directors choosing a Thursday evening:

  1. we didn't want to interfere with the nearest other Filling Station to us - New Forest Filling Station who meet on the 2nd Wednesday. So we gave space to them so that we can advertise their meetings and they ours.
  2. We also realised that some of the speakers we have booked can speak to youth and adults alike, so we want to foster our relationship with local schools and plan some double days when on the Friday night after a Filling Station we put on a 'iWorshipHim' Celebration concert with keynote speaker in a local school.

Meetings run from 7:30pm - 9:30pm see venue details below or on the contacts page

What Time are events?

Events Start at 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm (1930 -2130 hrs)

  • Doors Open at 7:00 pm (1900 hrs) for FREE refreshments.
  • Doors Close at 10:00 pm (2200 hrs)

For Venue and Timing information please see below or Venue information on the contacts page

Where Do You Meet?

VENUE:

Our normal venue is The Village Hotel Bournemouth where we meet for the majority of our meetings which is generally from January through July. However, we do take the Filling Station On The Road to visit local churches in our three areas of coverage and therefor the venue is changeable! One of the reasons for this is to build a bond with the local churches, their leaders and congregations and to build unity among local churches. Social media. such as our Facebook Page, and this website are THE PLACES to go first for venue information and updates. If you use Facebook please LIKE the WessexFillingStation page

You can find addresses and maps to all our venues via our dedicated Venues page.

Cost FREE Entry? How can it be free?

People have asked how we can afford to make it a cost free event? Well, in faith is the short answer.

We want the Wessex Filling Station to be there so that individuals, church leaders, passing hotel guests, and churches can freely come and hear an inspiring keynote speaker. This is so that they may be encouraged in their daily walk with God, encouraged to network with other churches in their area and so that they might be a blessing to the communities in which they live.

Running costs are a matter of faith covering; and we pray that God will envision people to give and support the work. We do not ask for money but envelopes are provided on seats with the upcoming event publicity so that people can give if they want to in a retiring offering.
